About this book

Erwin Blackthorn writes darker romance and First Night sits firmly in that tradition. The setup involves a wedding night that doesn't unfold the way the participants expected, and the rest of the book follows the consequences of that opening.

Readers should know going in that the book pushes into territory many readers prefer to avoid. The protagonist's situation is bad and the man at the center is not a clean hero.

The writing is direct. Blackthorn doesn't decorate the difficult moments. Readers who follow this corner of dark romance, including authors like Penelope Sky or Anna Zaires, will recognize the register and either appreciate it or find it not for them.

This is not an entry point for the genre. Readers new to dark romance should sample lighter authors first to see whether the territory works for them. For seasoned readers in the subgenre, Blackthorn delivers what the cover promises.
