Flights is a book by Olga Tokarczuk, a Polish writer who won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2019. The book is a collection of short stories and essays that explore the theme of travel and movement in various ways. Some of the stories are based on historical figures,
such as Chopin’s sister who carried his heart back to Poland, or the Dutch anatomist who discovered the Achilles tendon. Others are fictional, such as a woman who leaves her family to wander the world, or a man who is obsessed with preserving human specimens.
The book is not a conventional novel, but rather a “constellation of narratives” that reflect on the human condition, the nature of time, and the meaning of life
