About this book
The foreword describes the book as an imperfect collection of folk tales and notes that some stories circulate in several versions, sometimes conflicting with one another. The foreword says that where several versions exist, the selection favours the version that appeared most unique and graceful and seemed to shed the truest light on habits.
Ka Nam is discovered asleep with the toadskin cast aside, and Ka Sngi seizes the skin and burns it to ashes. A little snail challenges a stag to a long race, declaring that she will beat him as a way of showing her contempt. U Yak Jakor transforms himself into the likeness of a woman's dead husband as she approaches the chest, although he cannot break the rattan.
