About this book
Forty-one years in India is by Frederick Sleigh Roberts and was published on 4 January 1897 in two volumes. The front pages list the successive editions, with prices in shillings, dollars and rupees for the English, United States and Indian editions.
In one passage the author travels from Peshawar with his father as far as Nowshera and Attock, then goes back through Peshawar towards Bazidkhel, where his battery is with a force assembled for an expedition against the Bori villages of the Jowaki Afridis. Another passage describes a swamp that men and horses struggled through, and a white country-bred pony he found tied to a tree. In a third, on the top of the Shutargardan Pass, he receives the Amir's reply to a letter and a letter from Sirdar Wali Mahomed Khan.
