About this book
The book gives an account of border countries, the more turbulent tribes controlled by the North-West Frontier Province, and military relations with those tribes in the past. A force numbering 3270 of all arms assembles at Sherghar under Sir Colin Campbell on the 15th May, when the account says further coercion became necessary. The action at Shakot includes the Guides and Gurkhas storming a nullah under covering fire from guns, with infantry support.
The account of the border says that a period of tolerable quiet lasting three years was followed by a constant succession of petty raids and disturbances. The account describes a force crossing from Kirpilian in two large boats, followed by the advance of Sikh regiments and mountain guns as the Hindustanis evacuated the fort.
