About this book

Annalee Newitz investigates the history of cities that have been abandoned, beginning with the water systems of Angkor. Conversations with an archaeologist show how royal priorities shaped engineering decisions and left long-term weaknesses. The account approaches urban ruins as evidence of everyday labor, political choices and the pressures that can transform a city's future.
