About this book
Francis Beaumont: Dramatist is a portrait by Charles Mills Gayley. The text says that through their mother, Anne Pierrepoint, the Beaumont children of Grace-Dieu were connected with several of the most influential noble families of England and Scotland. Holme-Pierrepoint is described as seventeen miles northeast of Grace-Dieu, near the city of Nottingham, in the red sand-stone country along the River Trent.
Since no entry of Francis' baptism has been discovered, the text says it is uncertain whether he was born at Grace-Dieu. A verse says Beaumont and Fletcher were two wits and friends, and that whoever robs from the one to glorify the other is a partial lover of these great memories. A table headed Table C lists the names Beaumont, Pierrepoint, Cavendish and Talbot.
