About this book
Fred has made many friends among the boys of Riverport, and the account adds that he has made some enemies as well. Fred keeps the good opinion of most schoolmates through winter and early spring, and approaches the summer ready to join enthusiastically in the sports of the season. The two lads walking beside the river above the town hear a sharp scream and splashing as they turn a bend in the stream.
Fred follows Miss Muster's instructions, finds the step-ladder in the basement, and carries the ladder upstairs without the slightest difficulty. The onlookers hold their breath in suspense, and a shout announces that Riverport turns first.
