About this book

Fred Fenton on the Track, subtitled Or, The Athletes of Riverport School, is a book by Allen Chapman. Poor Fred is secretly nursing deep anxiety to his heart, not willing to confide in even his best friends. A speaker tells Bristles that they must turn at the crossroads, and that the course heads into the northwest from there, up to Afton's pond, then due east two miles to Watch Hill.

A speaker sees a horse that has taken the bit between his teeth and is running away, with a boy sprinting after him. Dick Hanshaw asks Fred whether it is about time he started on his five mile run. A field is to be the scene of the gathering crowds coming to witness the athletic meet of the three rival schools. Some said the sum must have been as high as three hundred thousand dollars and others declared it was only a single hundred thousand, but it placed the Fenton family beyond the reach of want as long as they lived.
