About this book

Genuine Mediumship, or The Invisible Powers, is a book about mediumship and occult powers. Its contents open with a part called Nature's Finer Forces, with chapters such as Knowledge versus Faith, Supernormal, not Supernatural, The Naturalness of Occult Powers, The World of Vibrations and Unseen Worlds.

The text argues that occult and psychic powers have a natural, scientific basis and urges students to learn that basis so they can explain it to others. A passage on development says that the methods for mediumship differ from those for ordinary psychic power: the medium must cultivate what it calls negative receptivity to vibrations from the spirit planes, and is described as acted upon rather than the actor. Another section gives directions for a materializing seance, in which the circle holds hands, may sing reverently and keeps joking out.
