The text says the known history of the earth has been more or less definitely divided into great eras and lesser periods and epochs, constituting what may be called the geologic time scale.

The text says the maximum thickness of the North American Devonian seems to be about 15,000 feet in the northern Appalachian region, but elsewhere it generally ranges from 1,000 to 4,000 feet thick. The text says one of the most famous mining districts in the world is that around Leadville, Col. The text says the Park City and Tintic districts of Utah are great producers of lead.
