About this book
Patrick Braybrooke's book about G. K. Chesterton carries an introduction by Arthur F. Thorn, and its title page is dated London, 1922. Its preface begins by saying that most people find life exciting until middle age arrives.
One passage takes up Chesterton's remarks on humour in the Bible, and a chapter of his on the literature of the servant girl and Park Lane. Another passage deals with Rudyard Kipling: Braybrooke disagrees with Chesterton's charge that Kipling worships militarism. A third passage looks at how Chesterton writes history, including the Middle Ages, and asks whether the history of England has received the attention it deserves. Near the close the author asks where Chesterton belongs in literature, as essayist, novelist, historian or critic.
