About this book
God and the World, "A Survey of Thought," is by Arthur W. Robinson, D.D., with "a Prefatory Note by SIR OLIVER LODGE." The contents list names, among others, "The Older Orthodoxy," "The Progress of Discovery," "Theological Difficulties," "The Counter-Arguments." The text says of a period that it was "marked, as we have said, by the intelligence and vigour of its questionings" and was "a time of intellectual movement and turmoil."
The text speaks of "first thoughts," "second thoughts" and "third thoughts, which were the ripest and soundest of all." The text cites "the veteran naturalist Wallace," who "has devoted a whole chapter to answering the question," "Is Nature cruel?" in a book called "The World of Life." The text speaks of "the quietness and gentleness, the foresight, and the infinite patience of the Being of beings, who will never obtrude His presence and action upon us."
