The tentative course covers needlework, basketry, designing, paper and card-board construction, textile fibres and fabrics, and home decoration and care, for use in schools and homes. The explanatory note bases the five-year course on an estimated one hour weekly in the first two years and one and a half hours in the last three.
The sewing instructions explain how to measure and break thread and thread the needle, and warn against wetting thread in the mouth or biting it. The directions for chain stitch describe its use in outlining a design and marking garments, with instructions for inserting the needle and drawing through the thread. The basketry discussion describes coiled forms ranging from a table mat to jars and vases, and recommends deciding the shape and design before beginning.
