About this book
The book Knitting, Crochet, and Netting, with Twelve Illustrations is by Eléonore Riego de la Branchardière. The preface says that the Authoress, having had much experience in teaching and always writing her own directions, has been induced to publish this little Volume for the use of her pupils. The knitting directions for casting off say to knit 2 stitches, pass the 1st stitch knitted over the 2nd, knit 1, turn the 2nd stitch over the last, and repeat to the end.
The directions say that in purling a row the wool should be in front of the pin. A pattern headed Border, in two colors, says to cast on 359 stitches. A pattern headed Wedding Purse calls for extra fine white netting silk, and No. 4 gold beads, with meshes Nos. 6, 16, and 19 and 65 stitches.
