About this book
Handy Andy, subtitled A Tale of Irish Life. Volume 2, is by Samuel Lover. The list of illustrations includes, among others, Andy's Cooking Extraordinary, The Abduction, A Crack Shot and The Challenge. A tale has a cat tell Tom Connor that the neighbours wonder that a respectable man like him allows his cat to go about the country barefooted, and Tom asks whether it is a cat to wear shoes.
Edward's friends told him he felt over keenly upon the subject, and that no one but himself could entertain a question of his total innocence of O'Grady's death. Andy strove hard, with praiseworthy industry, to lift himself above the state of ignorance, and had daily attendance from the parish schoolmaster. Horsemanship is described as Andy's daily self-established reward for his perseverance.
