About this book
Hawk Eye is by David Cory, author of Little Indian and others. The contents list chapters titled, among others, Wild Geese, The Bear, The Rapids, The Beaver Dam and Journey's End. The chapter headed Wild Geese opens with Slow Dog, Medicine Man, looking out of his lodge as wild geese honk overhead. Slow Dog mutters that he must be the first to kill one, and hides among a clump of willow bushes in the hope that the birds might come down to feed.
Two boys, one about fifteen years of age, the other close to thirteen, have also heard the honking. Hawk Eye, the elder, cries "Get your bow and arrows" while darting into his tepee, and the younger boy, Raven Wing, runs to his lodge for his weapons. In the chapter headed The Beaver Dam, the boys make good progress during the next few days and pass the Yellow Medicine, Sparrowhawk and Redwood rivers.
