About this book
Hints on Horsemanship, to a Nephew and Niece is a book by George Greenwood. The first chapter states that throughout Europe there is only one style of riding taught, the soldier’s one-handed style. The text says its pages are written to correct a common error, described as a monstrous and perpetual source of bad riding and of bad usage to good animals.
Directions are given for facing about in the saddle: place the palms of the hands on the pummel, throw the legs out over the horse’s croupe, and come into the saddle facing the tail. The title page names Colonel George Greenwood, late Lieut.-Col. commanding 2nd Life Guards, and adds the words Common Sense and Common Errors in Common Riding.
