Historic Paris is by Jetta S. Wolff, with fifty-nine illustrations. A passage says that the Garden was not accessible to the public in those days, and that until the outbreak of the Revolution the noblesse or their privileged associates alone had the right to pace its alleys. The text says that in 1792 Louis XVI was tried and, after a sitting lasting thirty-seven hours, condemned to death.
Rue St-Dominique is described as a country road, like Rue de Grenelle in ancient days, that grew into a thoroughfare of fine hôtels. The text says that at No. 11 are vestiges of the hôtel of Pierre de Beauvais, where the Doge of Venise, come to Paris to make obeisance to Louis XIV, stayed in 1686.
