About this book
The story of Moscow by Wirt Gerrare describes the city's growth amid wars, famine, pestilence and struggles over other possessions. The historical account describes Moscow becoming a rallying point for the Slav race, growing strong and rich, and dominating Russia through its rulers. The description of Krasnœ Kriltso identifies a state entrance to the palace where the Tsars appeared before the people.
The palace steps are described as having lost their roofs to fires, with an awning used on state occasions. The account of Napoleon's departure says that he had already ordered Lariboisiere, the chief of artillery, to destroy the Kremlin.
