About this book
Hours with the Mystics, subtitled A Contribution to the History of Religious Opinion, is by Robert Alfred Vaughan. The text gives sayings of a Master Eckart, who is quoted as saying that some people are for seeing God with their eyes, as they can see a cow, and would love God as they love a cow. Master Eckart is also quoted as saying that God is a pure good in Himself and will dwell nowhere save in a pure soul.
Madame Guyon conceived herself bound to suffer in silence, and a severe illness brought her more than once to the brink of the grave. Behmen’s doctrine is called far less dangerous, and to be preferred if we must have an extreme, and the scriptural teaching is described as one in which St. Paul does not attempt to persuade himself that earth is heaven, that faith is sight, that hope is fruition.
