About this book
Reginald Scot's The Discoverie of Witchcraft is presented as a reprint of the first edition published in 1584, dated London 1886, in an edition of 250 copies only. A list of subscribers follows, including the Royal Library at Windsor Castle.
In one passage Scot writes that necromancers say the spirit of any man may be called up within a year of his departure, and he cites Agrippa. He also says he dissents from Augustine with reverence, and a chapter is headed That neither the divell nor Samuell was raised, but that it was a meere cousenage, according to the guise of our Pythonists. Another passage describes priests who use a psalter and a key to find a thief, and cites Hemingius. A passage on rain and hail says it is in the power of God only, citing Brentius.
