About this book
Impressions of a War Correspondent is credited to George Lynch. The contents list titles including The Dance of Death, The Aftermath of War, Elandslaagte and A Glimpse of our Gunners. One account gives another but different instance of a horse carrying a corpse at the battle of Lombard's Kop. The 5th Lancers were riding out on the right when a single horse came galloping past them, clattering furiously over the stony veldt.
The text quotes words saying that the Chinese have so far in return received opium, missionaries, and bombardment, for what went to the West in the shape of silk, tea, and the magnetic compass, and that it is only the lower orders that have always been very susceptible to the teaching of foreigners. The narrator says he never saw rabbits fight before, but they are fighting like mad, and that he is sorry now that he could not resist the temptation of taking a shot at them with his fountain pen.
