About this book
In Both Worlds is by William H. Holcombe. The contents list names, among others, Cast Out, Night by the Dead Sea, The Chamber of Magic, My First Death and The World of Spirits. The narrator says his father suddenly raised his voice in an excited manner: “I assure you he is a thief and a robber, and addicted to magic. O Caiaphas! save my children and their property from this monster!” The narrator describes Magistus as a thin, sallow, ugly old man, with an immense hooked nose like the beak of a bird of prey.
The narrator says he seemed to see his good and generous uncle Beltrezzor bowing his head reverently to the great luminary. The narrator says it was a special pleasure to nurse the sick, and that in the course of twenty or thirty years hundreds and even thousands felt the benefit and the blessing of his presence.
