About this book
Ralph Waldo Trine's The Higher Powers of Mind and Spirit was first published in May 1918, and this copy's title page is dated 1933. Its foreword says we all live in two kingdoms, the inner kingdom of mind and spirit and the outer kingdom of the body and the physical universe.
The foreword adds that we must work for bread but need other things too, and that striking the right balance is essential to a successful life. In one passage Trine lists laws he says are now well established: thought as a force, the subconscious mind, mental suggestion, and the value of periods of meditation and quiet. Another passage says a nation is great only as its people are great. A further passage returns to two fundamentals of Jesus and mentions Jefferson. A passage near the close quotes an editorial on adults in New York State who cannot read and the need to teach them English.
