About this book
In the Claws of the German Eagle is a book by Albert Rhys Williams. The acknowledgment thanks the Editors of The Outlook for permission to reproduce the articles which first appeared in that magazine. The contents list parts titled The Spy-Hunters Of Belgium, On Foot With The German Army and With The War Photographers In Belgium, among others.
The porter announces that an American gentleman wants to see the narrator. When asked whether he is an American, a somewhat spare, tall, and extremely erect-appearing man responds, "Not exactly." A speaker tells of speeding along at a rapid rate, daring to make one cut across a field, and so coming to Jupilles without challenge. Two officers, bowing politely, say, "Pardon, Monsieur; pardon, Madame! Your papers."
