This memoir of John Stuart Mill comes from Henry Fawcett (1833-1884), the blind Cambridge economist and Liberal politician who was Mill’s friend, disciple, and parliamentary ally. Blinded in a shooting accident at twenty-five, Fawcett rose to be professor of political economy and Gladstone’s Postmaster-General, and he fought beside Mill for women’s suffrage and proportional representation. His sketch of the master is both tribute and primary source from inside Victorian radical liberalism. Free PDF download available on BDeBooks.
