About this book
Keep Your Shape is a book by Robert Sheckley. The opening says only a race as incredibly elastic as the Grom could have a single rule of war.
The Pilot slows the ship almost to a standstill and peers at a green planet below, where twenty previous Grom expeditions had set out to prepare it for invasion and vanished utterly, without a word. Pid warns his crew that any shape not assumed strictly in the line of duty is a foul, lawless device of The Shapeless One. Ger turns himself into a facsimile of a Dog, and Pid says he wants a little less tail. A Hawk swoops, and Pid has to fight as a Bird, four hundred feet above the ground, growing a foot-long beak with a double razor's edge.
