About this book

Faith, grief, love and human uncertainty shape Cale Young Rice's poetry collection Many Gods. An opening poem places a questioning speaker aboard a ship beneath the stars, weighing destiny against belief in divine care. Other verses turn toward Japan, where religious conversion, devotion to the Buddha and the memory of a lover give different forms to the human condition.

About the author

Cale Young Rice

Cale Young Rice built his career as an American poet and verse dramatist whose books joined lyrical travel impressions to sustained dramatic form. David; A Tragedy, issued by McClure, Phillips in 1904, reshapes the biblical conflict around Saul's court, placing David among Jonathan, Michal, Samuel, and rivals for political power.
