About this book

Mary Tudor, Queen of France by Mary Croom Brown concerns the queen and includes illustrations, among them a portrait identifying her as Duchess of Suffolk with her husband. The account says that Louis obtained a divorce from Jeanne on his accession and then married Anne of Brittany, the widow of his cousin and predecessor, Charles VIII. The description of Anne of Brittany presents a not unusual mixture of piety and arrogance, calling her a thousand times more Duchess of Brittany than Queen of France until her death.

An inventory lists chairs covered in cloth of gold, some with gold-thread and silk fringes, together with cushions of cloth of gold and velvet. The account of Margaret says that fear of offending the King prevented her from openly saying she would not have Lisle for a husband.
