About this book
Master of the Moondog, by Stanley Mullen, carries the line "Idiotic pets rate idiotic masters" and says Tod Denver and Charley, the moondog, "made ideal companions as they set a zigzag course for the Martian diggings". The temperature outside is "a rough 280 degrees F., which is plenty rough", and the setting is "somewhere over the Lunar Appenines". Tod Denver glares at Charley, who "was a moondog and looked like one", and Charley glares back.
Charley's iridescence flickers evilly, "enough to short-circuit two relays and weld an undetermined number of hot switches". Tod Denver swears and sets the controls on automatic-neutral, and "they would have been in Crystal City inside the hour" but for Charley. A watchman greets Tod with "Hi, Tod! You sure get around", and Tod asks "Lend me your gun, Ike?" Soleil comments "They're cute" about "a pile of writhing radiance, like glowing worms", which the text names as "A whole litter of moonpups".
