About this book
Medica Sacra is by Richard Mead, whose title page calls it a commentary on the most remarkable diseases mentioned in the holy scriptures. The title page says it was translated from the Latin, under the author's inspection, by Thomas Stack. The contents list the disease of Job, the leprosy and the disease of king Saul, among others.
The contents also list sections Of demoniacs and Of lunatics. One passage about the author says that Mr. Mead commenced doctor in philosophy and medicine at Padua, the twenty-sixth of August 1695. The chapter on the disease of king Saul begins with King Saul being abandoned by the Spirit of God, while an evil spirit from the Lord troubled him. One passage mentions the learned Casaubon and Judas, and quotes Ovid as saying strangulat inclusus dolor.
