About this book
Modern India is by William Eleroy Curtis. The book contains a series of letters written during the winter of 1903-04. The contents list chapters titled The City of Bombay, Two Hindu Weddings, The Religions of India and The Railways of India.
More chapter titles are Jeypore and its Maharaja, About Snakes and Tigers, The Architecture of the Moguls and The Most Beautiful of Buildings. The writer says he does not know of any such driveway elsewhere, and that it extends for several miles, and adds that poor people are allowed to camp there in tents in hot weather. Mosaics on the interior marble walls of the palaces are considered incomparable, with designs of flowers, foliage, fruits, birds, beasts, fishes and reptiles carried out with precious stones in the pure white marble.
