About this book
Lewis Spence's preface says this volume reviews the religious history of ancient Egypt in the light of the science of modern mythology, and observes that few Egyptologists are well informed about the basic laws of that science. A plate shows the presentation of Ani to Osiris, from the Papyrus of Ani.
In one passage on creation, Khepera says he found no place on which to stand and worked a charm upon his own heart, and the tears he sheds become men and women. Spence sets beside it the story of Odin pledging his eye to Mimir. Another passage gives tales told before King Khufu, among them that of Dedi, said to be 110 years old and famed for magical learning. An index lists names and topics including Anubis, Pluto and the Popol Vuh.
