Ninth Ward by Jewell Parker Rhodes is an Emotional middle-grade novel set in New Orleans’ Ninth Ward neighborhood during the days surrounding Hurricane Katrina. The story focuses on twelve-year-old Lanesha, who lives in a close-knit community. Despite not having a fancy house or many friends, Lanesha has Mama Ya-Ya, her fiercely loving caretaker.
