About this book

The contents of Oaths of Allegiance in Colonial New England list oaths under headings that include, among others, In England, In New Plymouth Colony and In Massachusetts-Bay Colony. The New Plymouth section lists, among others, a Combination for Foundation of Government known as The Mayflower Compact.

An oath text in the book swears to bear faith and true allegiance to his Majestie, his Heires and Successors, and to defend them to the uttermost of the swearer's power against all conspiracies and attempts whatsoever. A Court, considering proposals from several of the inhabitants of the County of Middlesex, declares and orders that no man whosoever shall be admitted to the Freedome of this Body Politick, but such as are members of some Church of Christ and in full Communion. The signers of a document engage themselves to submit to his Royal Maties Lawes, together with all such orders as shalbee concluded by a Major part of the Freemen of our Society, in case they bee not repugnant to the Lawes of England.
