About this book
The book is titled Occasional Thoughts in Reference to a Vertuous or Christian life. The preface says the following discourse was written some years since, and that the papers lay by for above two years unread, and almost forgotten. The preface says that, once perused and corrected, the papers were communicated to some friends, who judged them capable of being useful.
The text says the actual assistance of mothers will, generally speaking, be found necessary to the right forming of the minds of their children. The text says Christ came to establish betwixt God and Man a Covenant of Grace in order to men's obtaining eternal life, which they could not obtain by the works of the Law. The text says that where there is mutually a predominant disposition to vertuous love, which is the characteristick of the most excellent minds, the writer thinks we cannot frame an idea of so great happiness to be found in any thing in this life as in a married state.
