About this book
Oscar Wilde is a book by Guy Thorne, who writes that Oscar Wilde had a supreme sense of humour. The author adds that many people would like to deny Oscar Wilde humour while admitting his marvellous and scintillating wit. The book says Oscar Wilde invented a pose which he intended should become a megaphone.
Mr Labouchere is quoted as saying he has known Oscar Wilde off and on for years, and has always regarded him as clever and witty yet somewhat wrong in the head. A summary of a play says that the last act takes place in the prison, where Guido is asleep and Beatrice, wearing a cloak and mask, enters to him, and that a reconciliation takes place between them when he awakes. The book prints extracts from Canon Beeching's sermon, which says that a book has lately appeared which presents a caricature of the portrait of Christ.
