About this book
Other People's Money is by Émile Gaboriau. The text says there is not, perhaps, in all Paris, a quieter street than the Rue St. Gilles in the Marais, within a step of the Place Royale. A bill in the text reads Sold to M. Favoral an India Cashmere, fr. 8,500. The commissary says there are certain passions which nothing betrays externally, and that gambling is more terrible than fire.
A woman telling her story says she piled up hurriedly in two trunks and in some bandboxes all she had in the world. Maxence says Lucienne in a sorrowful tone. M. de Tregars steps forward and says to a mademoiselle that she shall live.
