About this book
Our Deportment is compiled from the latest reliable authorities by John H. Young and covers the manners, conduct and dress of the most refined society, with forms for letters and invitations. A verse in the book says that to go through this life with good manners possessed is to be kind unto all, rich, poor and oppressed.
The text describes true politeness as the outward visible sign of those inward spiritual graces called modesty, unselfishness and generosity. A section on the conduct of husband and wife advises that neither ever deceive the other or do anything to shake the other's confidence. Household cleaning directions also appear, among them TO TAKE INK-SPOTS FROM LINEN and TO CLEAN KID GLOVES.
