About this book
Poems dedicates the book to Saint Mary College of Winchester near Winchester, describing the college as honoured and greatly loved. The verse recalls singing around the trees of Twyford School and hours of sunshine beside Mead's Wall, among recollections of childhood.
“To Morfydd” presents a voice that wanders and cries on the winds and by the waters, asking what the winds and waters are. The verse pictures youth moving the stern Fates to pity and almost overcoming certain death. A speaker describes a spirit taking the cloister of the soul by storm and ecstasy, with ardour that is agony and obedience to another's will.
