Last Poems is by Edward Thomas and is marked 1918. The contents list names poems including The Dark Forest, Celandine, The Ash Grove and Old Man, among others. One poem speaks of the celandines of February and of the maiden who had seen the blossoms with the speaker Februarys before.
A poem says half of the grove stood dead, and that those that yet lived made little more than the dead ones made of shade. A poem headed Old Man mentions Lad's-love, or Old Man, and a hoar-green feathery herb, almost a tree. A poem pictures the walls of a ruined cottage, where the periwinkle crawls with flowers in its hair into the wood. A poem has a Gypsy boy with a spark in his black eyes as he played and stamped his tune, Over the hills and far away, and a crescent moon.
