Still recovering, Pollyanna is sent to Boston to lift the spirits of the wealthy, grieving Mrs. Carew, who is searching for a lost nephew, and her Glad Game works its usual quiet magic on the unhappy household. The story then jumps forward to Pollyanna at twenty, home again and tangled in the misunderstandings and romances of young adulthood, where cheerfulness alone no longer settles everything. It is a gentler, more grown-up book than its predecessor, following its heroine out of childhood without losing her warmth. The only Pollyanna sequel Porter wrote herself.
