About this book
Popular Romances of the West of England, Second Series is a collection of the drolls, traditions, and superstitions of Old Cornwall, collected and edited by Robert Hunt. A legend tells of children who have walked far and are ravenously hungry, eat their fish too rapidly to remove the bones, and are both choked. The account acknowledges many disputes about the identity of the fish concerned in the legend.
A cake custom assigns a year without want of money to the person who receives the sixpence and first marriage to the person who receives the ring. The cake custom predicts that the possessor of the thimble will die an old maid.
