About this book
Pythias is by Frederik Pohl, and a blurb says, "Larry Connaught saved my life". The narrator says he is "sitting on the edge of what passes for a bed", made of "loosely woven strips of steel" with "no mattress". The narrator says, "They expect to take me out of this precinct jail to the District prison and eventually to the death house."
The narrator says he "deliberately shot to death Laurence Connaught", who "had saved my life." The narrator and Connaught "were close friends for years", "lost touch during the war" and "met again in Washington", while the narrator "flunked out of med school, while he went on." The narrator has "no string of degrees", but "you don't need them in order to be a Senate guard." Larry says, "I should have known you'd remember," and the narrator tells him, "You claimed that the human mind possessed powers of psychokinesis."
