About this book
Records of Journeys to Venice and the Low Countries is by Albrecht Dürer, whom a background note calls probably the greatest graphical artist of the Northern Renaissance. The contents list Part 1, letters from Venice to Wilibald Perkheimer, and Part 2, a diary of a journey in the Netherlands.
One letter says that, as to the pearls and precious stones the writer was commissioned to buy, he can find nothing good enough or worth the money, since everything is snapped up by the Germans. The writer says he has to paint a picture for the Germans, for which they are giving him 110 Rhenish gulden. Some entries list money and gifts, among them "I have taken Herr Bannisis's portrait in charcoal" and "Rodrigo gave me another parrot, and I gave his boy 2 stivers for a tip."
