About this book
Remarks on Some Fossil Impressions in the Sandstone Rocks of Connecticut River is by John Collins Warren. A passage describes two eggs, one of an ovoid form, having much the shape of a hen's egg, and the other an ellipsoid. The ovoid egg is of enormous size, even when compared with the largest egg known, and its long diameter exceeds thirteen inches of English measure.
The capacity of the ovoid egg is thought to be equal to eighteen liquid pints, or six times greater than that of the largest egg known, the ostrich. The second group is characterized by the Argozoum, a genus of two species, the larger called Argozoum Disparidigitatum and the smaller called Argozoum Paridigitatum. The text says that when the tridactylous tracks are attentively considered, they appear to exhibit the character of the impressions of the feet of birds so very decidedly that it would require something more than a philosophic incredulity to question their ornithic origin.
