About this book
Scarabs introduces the study of Egyptian seals and signet rings, with plates and illustrations accompanying the discussion of these objects. The description of a cylinder-seal identifies the full titles and name of Queen Sebek-shedeti-neferu, recording the royal identity carried by the object. A cylinder-seal bearing the names and titles of king Amenenhat-senb-ef is described as steatite coated with a fine blue glaze, with delicately cut hieroglyphs.
The discussion of official seals says that, with other officials, the Chancellor seems to have customarily delivered the Seal. The discussion of animal forms describes a naturalistic group of a cow suckling its calf, cut in steatite.
