Shattered Illusions
Karen Michelle Nutt writes paranormal romance with a heavy gothic streak, and Shattered Illusions sits comfortably in that lane. The setup involves a vampire under a curse and a woman who turns out to be the only person who can lift it. There are flashbacks to past lives, family secrets, and the kind of love-across-centuries arc that genre fans tend to enjoy.
Nutt has a backlist of similar books, so the world feels worked out rather than thin. Side characters get enough room to feel real even when they’re only on the page briefly.
The writing is straightforward and the pace is steady. If you want a quick paranormal read with romance front and center and lower stakes than urban fantasy, this works. Fans of Lynsay Sands or Lara Adrian will probably feel at home.
