About this book
Sisters Three is a book by Mrs. George de Horne Vaizey, and Chapter One is headed New Year’s Day. Norah sighs that she wishes something would happen, and Lettice corrects that it should be something nice. Hilary says that they want a change, and that their lives jog-trot along in the same way year after year, and it grows monotonous.
Hilary takes up the strain, saying that they are dull, and tired of themselves. Mr Bertrand lived so entirely in the book which he was writing at the time that he found it impossible to keep silent on the subject. Lettice cries that she does not want to go or to leave her father, and that she would be so homesick, and Mr Bertrand strokes Lettice’s golden locks. Mr Bertrand says that whichever Miss Carr chooses will have to go.
